This project was a culmination of 6 months of systematically raking 'the Oval" approximately 11 acres and photo-gramming all the debris that was collected. In addition a string was cast in wax across both its width and length. A video was taken while walking along these lines of reference. Our traditional architectural understanding of scale was often blindly understood as 1/4" = 1'-0" This within the context of a real space seems quite meaningless. As a counter point to this skewed view of reality a floor beam was deflected 1/4" in order to pinch/support a column. This reverse architectural act required using 2,753 lbs. of window weights that had been removed from the buildings existed bricked-in windows.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The title suggests the physical [scientific] condition of reflection as the mirror and the light reflect and reveal the colors on the white space hidden within. The metaphysical condition addresses the ideas of meditation, contemplation and the evaluation of ones personal experiences as an act of psychological reflection. Finally the experiential reflex that is simply defined as a transfer of excitement from one nerve to another. This project reflects those ideas and produces a reflex to all those who viewed it. <image:caption>An acoustical rendering of a construction site: This project consisted of a large wood box built from existing shipping crates filled with power tools. Photographs of the tools inside the box were formatted in a way that replicated common drafted orthographic views (floor plans, front and side elevations) The box was centered in the gallery and the images were placed on adjacent walls. A motion sensor was triggered when a visitor walked up to look at the photographs and the box would turn on and the gallery would suddenly feel like being on a construction site.</image:caption>

<image:title>acoustical rendering - view of acoustical box in gallery</image:title>

      <image:title>the shrink happening - the origami canopy/cloud</image:title>
<image:caption>The function: ‘The Shrink Happening’ was a place of celebration for the school after a long week of short intense projects, or charrettes, of which our project was one. The solution: an “idea cloud“ that floats over our heads and creates a dance between light and shadow. Our structure came in like a dragon and next week will leave without a physical trace. A temporary place made but permanent knowledge gained. [continued]</image:caption>

<image:caption>This piece consumed the center of the gallery. Large holes were cut into 60 sheets of giant paper (9 feet wide by 12 feet high) and hung in the gallery. The aggregate of the holes creates the exact, full-size shape of a large male sperm whale. Visitors are able to walk “inside the whale,” through the holes, and hear the famous novel being read to them through speakers hidden in the installation. [continued] photo credit to Robert W.
