Within the collaborative process there is a choreography that develops, a dance with materials, form and site. In our evolving architectonic installation, the process of working together allowed for the work to shift and develop into unexplored territories within both of our artistic practices. The collaboration began with an interest in investigating light and reflected color within a constructed object. [continued]

The title suggests the physical [scientific] condition of reflection as the mirror and the light reflect and reveal the colors on the white space hidden within. The metaphysical condition addresses the ideas of meditation, contemplation and the evaluation of ones personal experiences as an act of psychological reflection. Finally the experiential reflex that is simply defined as a transfer of excitement from one nerve to another. This project reflects those ideas and produces a reflex to all those who viewed it. [continued]

the piece is 8 ft x 8 ft x 8 ft high consisting of 16 layers. each layer has a hole cut in it that reveals a hidden space when you look at the mirrored floor beneath it.

The top of all the layers are painted colors while the bottom of all the layers are painted white. The light bounces off the colored surfaces and produces a colored light to wash the white surfaces.

This view is looking up at the white painted underside of all the layers. What you see is actually reflected colored light from the painted surface directly below it.
